Description

Lydia's River Cottage is open-plan downstairs, fully central-heated with a remote-controlled living-flame gas stove to provide a cosy focal point on cold days (and we do have lots of them!). There is a 40-inch Smart Super HDTV and a DAB radio.

The kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge-freezer, oven with ceramic hob above, and a microwave oven.

The rear door leads onto a large, elevated riverside patio directly above the river Greta, which is private and has spectacular river views. Relaxed, outdoor dining can be combined with wildlife viewing (binoculars supplied). Ducks, goldeneye, mergansers, herons, white throated dippers and grey wagtails are common and the rarer sightings include kingfishers and otters.

Upstairs there are two bedrooms – a double bedroom to the rear of the property, overlooking the river, and a twin room to the front with views towards Walla Crag.

The modern shower room, washbasin, and WC are upstairs. As the cottage has no bath the owners installed a large shower with choice of monsoon or normal showering.

Parking for the cottage is private, off road and large enough for two cars.

WiFi is complimentary and unlimited, approx 16Mbps.

An annual repose in ideal surroundings, suits us!
We have taken this cottage and previously next door for 20 years, sometimes for more than 1 week. The position and surroundings with local amenities are exceptionally suitable , a base for walking, up in the fells, cycling or just the peace and quiet on nature and the gurgling of a peaceful slightly agitated river behind. To see on parking it is a leisurely stroll of around 20 minutes into bustling Keswick, with its weekly local market is a joy to peruse to enjoy. The old railway track now regraded and tarmac covered is a pleasant walk 3 mile walk to Threlkeld where there are some choice inns to enjoy a meal and a refreshing drink and if that is enough exercise just catch the bus back. The Stop to alight is nigh on outside the cottage. A central position in the Lake District allows travel in any direction and the bonus of the cottage is that there is ample parking. The cottage is excellent it has every amenity needed and well serviced. all modern conveniences, allows Wi Fi connection and all other modern home from home luxuries, only a "meanie" would not enjoy. have a trek up Latrigg behind, search the local walks, Brierly and the ex cottages involved in making wooden spools of all sizes cross the road and head up Walla Crag for a short ramble with amazing views over Borrowdale. But all in all enjoy your stay, we do!

Hi there! Thank you so much for such a wonderful and heartfelt review. We’re incredibly grateful for your loyalty over the past 20 years — it truly means a great deal to us to have welcomed you back time and time again, sometimes for extended stays. It’s lovely to hear how much you continue to enjoy the unique setting, with its peaceful surroundings, the sound of the river, and the easy access to so many fantastic walks and cycling routes. You’ve painted such a vivid picture of the area — from leisurely strolls into Keswick and the weekly market, to the railway path to Threlkeld and the stunning views from Latrigg and Walla Crag. It really is a very special part of the Lake District, and we’re so pleased it continues to offer you so much. We’re delighted that the cottage itself continues to meet your needs so well, providing all the comforts of home alongside modern conveniences, and that the parking and central location make it such a perfect base for exploring in every direction. Your closing words say it all — and we couldn’t agree more. Thank you again for your continued support, and we very much look forward to welcoming you back for many more stays to come. Best wishes, Keswick Cottages

Nice Cottage
Clean, well equipped, reasonably comfortable, pleasantly situated by the River Greta and an easy walk into Keswick town centre. The busy main road towards Penrith that runs past the cottage is a little noisy but that's not the fault of the cottage, just something to be aware of. Overall a very pleasant stay.

Hi, Jan! Thank you for your lovely and balanced review. We’re pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay at Lydia’s River Cottage and found it clean, well equipped, and comfortably situated beside the River Greta. It’s great to know you appreciated the easy walk into Keswick town centre too. Thank you also for mentioning the nearby road noise. As you say, this is something to be aware of due to the cottage’s location, and we appreciate you highlighting it helpfully for future guests. We’re glad it didn’t detract from what was overall a very pleasant stay for you. We’d be very happy to welcome you back again in the future. Best wishes, Keswick Cottages

Glorious riverside cottage
Lydia's cottage is a delight, it definitely has the wow factor. Everything about it is a delight, it's so well equipped and comfortable. It was very pleasant to go to sleep every night with the sound of the river, and a very comfy bed. A big plus for me was the bus stops outside, I travelled by train so I used the very good bus service to get around. I also appreciated the Fair Share scheme so I could donate food etc that I couldn't take with me. I highly recommend this cottage and would definitely book again. It also helped that I had beautiful weather so the patio overlooking the river was well used!

Hi, Janet! Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We’re absolutely delighted to hear how much you enjoyed your stay at Lydia’s River Cottage and that it had such a “wow factor” for you. Falling asleep to the sound of the river and waking up well rested in a comfy bed really does make it a special place, and it’s lovely to know you were able to make the most of the patio overlooking the water in such beautiful weather. We’re pleased the excellent bus links worked well for you when travelling by train, and it’s great to hear the Fair Share scheme was useful too – it’s always encouraging to know guests appreciate this initiative. Thank you for your recommendation; it truly means a lot to us. We’d be absolutely delighted to welcome you back again in the future. Best wishes, Keswick Cottages

We rented Lydia’s Cottage for two weeks. It was a great location close to transport and provided perfect accessibility to the entire Lake District. Clean and comfortable throughout. Would recommend to anybody.
Cozy cottage, very well equipped for a couple or small family. Despite its location on the main road, it is set well back from the road and therefore quiet. Rear courtyard is set on the banks of River Greta. Beautiful. Parking at the front. Property is set just outside the centre of the town, 10-15 minute walk on the main road but a couple of minutes extra if you take the old railway line (accessed just behind the Shell garage) Convenience store on the garage forecourt was well stocked and had everything we needed.
Booked a late deal with Keswick cottages for my husbands 70th Birthday. Jessica at Keswick cottages couldn't have been more helpful. Sent me details of available cottages. Answered all my questions and was brilliant throughout the booking process. We have used Keswick cottages on several occasions now as you can be certain of the service and the quality of the accommodation. This time we stayed at Lydia's River cottage. Wow! Brilliant location with parking for 2 cars just on the edge of Keswick. The cottage was warm and really comfy (home from home feel). The cottage was really tastefully decorated with quality equipment. Views from both front and back were gorgeous. The patio at the back would be brilliant for relaxing on. Not for us in early Jan with -3 temperatures ,but will return again later in the year to enjoy. In summary a beautiful cottage,in a great location which we didn't want leave and will look forward to returning to again. 😊
