Description

Lydia's River Cottage is open plan downstairs, fully central heated with a remote control living flame gas stove to provide a nice cosy focal point on cooler days. There is a 40 inch Smart Super HDTV and a DAB radio.

The kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge freezer, oven with ceramic hob above and a microwave oven.

The rear door leads onto a large elevated riverside patio directly above the river Greta, which is private and has spectacular river views.Relaxed outdoor dining can be combined with wildlife viewing (binoculars supplied). Ducks, goldeneye, mergansers, herons, white throated dippers and grey wagtails are common and the rarer sightings include kingfishers and otters.

Upstairs there are two pretty bedrooms – a double bedroom to the rear of the property which overlooks the river and a twin bedded room to the front with views towards Walla Crag.

The modern shower room washbasin and toilet are upstairs, as the cottage has no bath the owners installed a large shower with choice of monsoon or normal showering.

Parking for the cottage is private, off road and large enough for two cars.

WIFI is complementary and unlimited approx 16Mbps.

Keswick offers plenty of options to keep you occupied during your stay. For walkers the Keswick to Threlkeld Railway Trial which starts next to the Keswick Leisure centre is a 5 kilometre (10 kilometre there and back) walk along what was once a railway track. It offers beautiful views and is a multi-user trial suitable for pushchairs, wheelchairs and mobility scooters. If you fancy something with a little more elevation and spectacular views, Latrigg and Walla Crag can be reached from your doorstep, and you can even tick off some Wainwrights! 10 minutes out of Keswick is Whinlatter forest, which offers a huge selection of walks and outdoor activities.

Keswick itself offers lots of amenities, from shops to cafés, pubs to theatres, you will be spoilt for choice.

A fabulous week in Lydias Cottage
Lydias Cottage is one of the nicest cottages we have rented in the Lake District, great location for walking into town or up Latrigg, directly opposite a spar shop ( very handy ) , car parking space , and superb bosch appliances , beautiful crockery including a teapot and lovely furnishings. We were lucky to have a dry sunny week and were able to enjoy the outside seating at the front and dining area at the back . The only points lost in the above score are purely because we couldn't sleep for the heat, a summer duvet option would be perfect in the double room which does get very hot . However we had beautiful weather so its not a complaint , the cottage was superb, and we would very much like to return . If you have a dog, the town field is very close by , and there is plenty outside secure space at the front of the cottage in the lovely tidy garden to dry/clean the dog prior to coming in . Easy to get keys from key safe on arrival and again on departure, very organised and easy for a relaxing stay . It is a well cared for & well cleaned property which is sometimes hard to find . For coffee lovers , there is a cafetiere provided rather than a coffee machine which is deal .

Hi Suzanne, Thank you for your lovely review for Lydia's River Cottage. The cottage is in a lovely location, right on the river where you can sit and watch the wildlife with a glass of wine after exploring the local area. Townsfield is the perfect place for your pooch to have a run around and have a swim in the river. We hope you had a fantastic stay and we hope to welcome you back again soon! A Happy Return.
Having been to Lydia's Cottage before we knew what to expect - a really comfortable holiday home, with high quality kitchen and bathroom fittings and a wonderful setting. The nearby Spar store and garage, plus the proximity to the town make it an ideal location for us.

We rented Lydia’s Cottage for two weeks. It was a great location close to transport and provided perfect accessibility to the entire Lake District. Clean and comfortable throughout. Would recommend to anybody.
Cozy cottage, very well equipped for a couple or small family. Despite its location on the main road, it is set well back from the road and therefore quiet. Rear courtyard is set on the banks of River Greta. Beautiful. Parking at the front. Property is set just outside the centre of the town, 10-15 minute walk on the main road but a couple of minutes extra if you take the old railway line (accessed just behind the Shell garage) Convenience store on the garage forecourt was well stocked and had everything we needed.
Booked a late deal with Keswick cottages for my husbands 70th Birthday. Jessica at Keswick cottages couldn't have been more helpful. Sent me details of available cottages. Answered all my questions and was brilliant throughout the booking process. We have used Keswick cottages on several occasions now as you can be certain of the service and the quality of the accommodation. This time we stayed at Lydia's River cottage. Wow! Brilliant location with parking for 2 cars just on the edge of Keswick. The cottage was warm and really comfy (home from home feel). The cottage was really tastefully decorated with quality equipment. Views from both front and back were gorgeous. The patio at the back would be brilliant for relaxing on. Not for us in early Jan with -3 temperatures ,but will return again later in the year to enjoy. In summary a beautiful cottage,in a great location which we didn't want leave and will look forward to returning to again. 😊
