Totally neglected and dangerous property - avoid!
Two separate electrical faults. One caused a flame to shoot out the wall melting the wires in the kitchen socket, the other melted the wires in the immersion heater meaning no hot water for several days. A door fell off in the kitchen, and the upstairs landing storage heater wires had been cut and disconnected so it was freezing upstairs at night. I was told by the electrician that came out several times that the owner of the property liked to ‘tinker' with the electrics hence the botched up and dangerous wiring. I was also told the owner was very tight and wouldn't spent money on the place. This was obvious. Superficially the cottage looked nice and has great potential, but everything was literally falling to bits, broken or downright dangerous. The bathroom extractor fan didn't work and the bath wouldn't drain. And the kitchen external door lock is faulty and takes 5,763 turns of the key before it unlocks. This is one of the more expensive properties but one of the most neglected and dangerous ones I have ever stayed in. Keswick cottages were useless at resolving the issues promptly and kept saying it was the owners responsibility not there's. Ahem, my contact is with you Keswick Cottages not the owner! Lovely location but if you want to enjoy your stay book a different property with a different company and don't line greedy owners pockets.
Stangar cottage
Very nice cottage, excellent location for local walks and village amenities. Pub opposite very good for meals and drinks.

Hi Shane, Thank you for your review. Stanger Cottage in Braithwaite is ideally situated in the centre of the village so it is close the shop, the café and both pubs. There are plenty of walks that you can do right from the doorstep including Barrow and Grisedale Pike. Or if you are feeling adventure there is plenty to do at Whinlatter Visitor Centre including Go Ape & Forest Segway. Best wishes, Keswick Cottages

Good but disappointed!!
We have stayed in Stanger cottage several times before and were disappointed to find it very poorly equipped with kitchen utensils than it was previously , making it much harder to cater than before ,the door locks had also been changed from our visit 18 months before and the back door was difficult to open ,when we arrived we rang Keswick cottages about it as we couldn't get in and were told just keep turning the key and it will open eventually, which would indicate that it was an on going problem, we again reported it after turning the key over 50 times and still being unable to get in ,and we're assured that a lock smith would sort it that day ,we arrived back to find the same problem ,not really good enough!!!

Thank you very much for taking the time to review your stay at Stanger Cottage. I'm so sorry that you experienced some trouble with one of the door locks. We carry out numerous property checks between bookings to minimise inconvenience to our guests. Unfortunately on occasion maintenance issues may occur while properties are occupied, however as a small local business we will always respond as soon as the issue is brought to our attention. On this occasion the maintenance team tested the back door lock several times with different keys and was operating fine on their departure. We did send an update on this at the time but sincerely apologise if you continued to have difficult with the secondary entrance and for any inconvenience caused to your holiday. The property is now on a Winter shutdown, so please be assured we have passed on your feedback to the owners who often use the opportunity to carry out maintenance. We of course hope that you and your family had a fantastic time staying in Braithwaite and exploring the beautiful Lake District. Best Wishes, Keswick Cottages
