The Village Shop at Braithwaite has been run by the Eddington family since 2003. The team describe themselves as ‘a shop with a difference’, and have been part of the local community since the 1830s. Most days, Daphne will be there to greet you and tell you all about the Shop, and the little village of Braithwaite.
Stock up on household staples, local beers, and baked-in-store bread and cakes. The store also sells takeaway drinks, pastries, sandwiches, and ice creams, perfect for walkers just passing through Braithwaite village, along with a lovely range of Braithwaite Gifts, for an original souvenir that means a lot more than another fridge magnet.
Also at Braithwaite House, make sure to stop by the Tea Room! Food is served daily from 08:30-16:00, using locally-sourced ingredients for a menu inspired by the surrounding fells of Causey Pike, Grisedale Pike, and Barrow. Personal favourites of ours are the Lemon and Blackcurrant Cake from The Cumbrian Baker, and the Sticky Toffee Cake, inspired by the Cumbrian invention of Sticky Toffee Pudding (great bit of pub quiz trivia!).
