Description

Sheepfold Barn welcomes you into the impressive entrance hallway with feature galleried landing and vaulted ceiling. There is plenty of space for coats, boots and walking gear here, or you can pop them in the utility cloak room.

It is easy to make yourself at home, relax and recharge in the comfort of the spacious lounge area. There is warm lighting, three plush sofas to curl up on, and a Smart TV to enjoy your favourite show or film in the evenings.

To the back of the property is the large, sociable kitchen-diner with island unit and bar stools. There is everything you need and more; butler's sink, fridge-freezer, wine cooler, range cooker, and dishwasher. Throw together a feast, then dine overlooking the fabulous uninterrupted views.

There is a boutique-style WC and basin on the ground floor.

Sheepfold Barn has four beautiful, individually-styled bedrooms.

On the ground floor, you'll find a king-sized bedroom, complete with en-suite.

Upstairs, there are three further bedrooms: one room has a superking bed and en-suite shower room; the next has a king-size bed, again with en-suite shower room, and finally is the bunk bedroom, ideal for younger members of the group.

Each bedroom will be made up with luxury crisp white bed linen and towels for your arrival.

Outside there is a large gravel parking area for a number of vehicles, a patio area with table and chairs for al-fresco dining on an inviting summer's day, overlooking the large lawned garden and a hot tub.

Complimentary WiFi is provided.

Motherby sits ideally between the neighbouring towns of Keswick and Penrith. Private, without the business of central Keswick, but with the practicality of non-tourist-filled Penrith nearby, Motherby is the perfect location for a Lake District escape.

We'd recommend visiting Motherby by car, though it is possible to arrive via train at Penrith North Lakes railway station and use a local taxi service to reach Sheepfold Barn.

There's plenty to do in and around Motherby, but we'd recommend Rheged Discovery Centre, with variable exhibitions, and plenty to do for visitors of all ages, including activities, shopping, and eating (and who doesn't love that?)

A beautiful home in an outstanding location
Sheepfold Barn, as the name suggests, is a well presented barn conversion with lots of light and is fully equipped for an enjoyable stay. The location is fantastic with great dog walks on the doorstep. Being lambing season we were entertained by the frolicking lambs as we relaxed in the jacuzzi. Our dogs were very well behaved, initially curious but the long walks made them too tired to care. There is lots of parking available at the house which is accessible from a long bumpy drive, just take care and it won't be a problem. The beds are really comfortable as are the sofas. We celebrated with family for a special 60th birthday and couldn't have picked a better place. The weather was excellent so we were able to make full use of the stunning countryside. As others have commented there was an issue with the heating/water heat pump but each room had electric heaters. With the weather being good we did not need to use them during our stay. We did have an issue with hot water & not all guests were able to have a shower on the first morning. Being frugal on the following days meant we could last a tank. I would have appreciated transparency with the heat source pump before arrival. These things happen & it would not have put us off staying but being aware could have avoided the disappointment on the first morning. Overall we had a fantastic time & I would highly recommend this property and Keswick Cottages for booking. Their online booking system is easy & efficient and they are very responsive to queries. We look forward to our next visit!

Hi, Naomi! Thank you so much for such a detailed and thoughtful review. We’re absolutely delighted to hear you had a fantastic stay at Sheepfold Barn and that it was the perfect setting to celebrate a special 60th birthday with family. It’s lovely to know you enjoyed the light?filled barn conversion, comfortable beds and sofas, and made the most of the wonderful location with dog walks right on the doorstep. Relaxing in the jacuzzi while watching frolicking lambs during lambing season certainly sounds like a very special experience. Thank you as well for your helpful and balanced comments regarding the access drive and parking, and for highlighting the importance of taking care along the track — it’s great to hear you found it manageable. We also really appreciate your honest feedback about the heating and hot water system. While we’re pleased the electric heaters meant you were comfortable during the good weather, we understand how disappointing it must have been to experience limited hot water on the first morning. Your comments about transparency are noted and very helpful, and we’re grateful you shared them so constructively. We’re delighted that, overall, Sheepfold Barn and the surrounding countryside lived up to expectations and that you’d highly recommend both the property and Keswick Cottages. It’s lovely to hear our booking system and responsiveness worked well for you too. We very much look forward to welcoming you back for your next visit to the Lakes. Best wishes, Keswick Cottages

The perfect weekend with friends
Sheepfold Barn was the perfect location for my weekend with friends! It's rural location gave us the peace we all wanted and privacy to use the hot tub without concerns about people looking. It is located at the end of farm track but despite the recent wet weather it wasn't too muddy and was easy to navigate. It's interiors are to die for and the house is well stocked with everything you could need, we all came away wishing we could live there full time! Only issue was the heating wasn't working while we were there, which took us a bit of time to work out as the house was cosy when we came in but quickly cooled. There were multiple electric and oil heaters provided, it just would have been good to know that in advance so we didn't need to figure it out for ourselves. We also had a slight issue with hot water (it is an immersion system rather than a combi boiler system that the wording of the handbook suggests, so we had simply used all the hot water) but they were easy to contact and sent someone to look at it within the hour. I would recommend Sheepfold Barn to others and I suspect I may be back myself!

Hi, Lucinda! Thank you so much for such a warm, detailed and thoughtful review — you were an absolute pleasure from start to finish, and it’s lovely to hear how much you and your friends enjoyed your weekend at Sheepfold Barn. That peaceful rural setting is really special, and we’re delighted it gave you the privacy and tranquility you were looking for (with no one peering in on the hot tub!). We’re also glad the track wasn’t too muddy despite the recent weather — always a small win in the Lakes. Hearing that you fell in love with the interiors and felt the barn was stocked with everything you needed honestly made us smile. It’s the kind of place that’s hard not to wish you could move into permanently, so we completely understand the feeling. Thank you as well for your feedback about the hot water. wording We apologise for the confusion, and will look into the wording for future guests. We did leave a note explaining the temporary setup, but we appreciate that this was missed. We’re also thankful you were patient with the hot water system, and we’re glad we could get someone out to you so quickly. It means a lot that, even with those hiccups, you’d still recommend Sheepfold Barn and might return yourself. We’d absolutely love to welcome you back — hopefully with nothing to troubleshoot next time. We're working hard to have the underfloor heating fixed as soon as possible! Best wishes, Keswick Cottages

Beautiful house stunning surroundings
We recently stayed at this property and overall had mixed feelings about our experience. Firstly, the location is absolutely beautiful, and the property itself is gorgeous. It's set in a stunning area and really feels special when you arrive. The quality of the bed sheets and towels was excellent — everything felt fresh, soft, and luxurious, which we really appreciated. However, there were several issues that significantly impacted our stay. We were not informed prior to arrival that the heating was broken. Although plug-in heaters were provided, this was far from ideal — especially as we were travelling with our three-year-old child. It didn't feel safe to leave portable heaters on overnight in their room, which meant the house was uncomfortably cold at times. To make matters worse, we had paid extra for early access to the property, yet when we arrived there was a heating engineer still there working. This was frustrating and not what we expected when paying for early check-in. Cleanliness was also a major letdown. While it was clear that the bedding and towels had been changed, the rest of the house had not been cleaned to the same standard. The floors were very dirty, the kitchen counters were unclean, and the oven was also dirty. I ended up having to clean the floors and kitchen surfaces myself, which is not something you expect when staying in a property like this. It's such a shame because the house itself and the location are truly lovely. Unfortunately, the lack of communication about the heating and the poor standard of cleanliness really let the property down. With better maintenance, transparency, and a thorough clean, this could be an exceptional place to stay.

Unfortunately the heating wasn’t working when we arrived and I was a little concerned as we’d picked it as it had underground heating for my mum. However, rather than cancel, the host had kindly kitted the whole house with oil and electric radiators which did keep the house warm and even supplied an extra one for mum’s room. I’m so grateful that we got to see the Lake District as it was my mum’s last holiday with us all and had to return home as sadly she passed away a couple of days later. She thoroughly enjoyed it; the house was perfect with beautiful views and we had an amazing time. Definitely would recommend going there.
Communication was excellent, such a friendly and helpful team, everything about the property was stunning, clean,no clutter and it had everything you could ever need. The hot tub was just the icing on the cake especially on the clear nights just beautiful. Thank you for a lovely relaxing break away.
Such a beautiful house and in the most peaceful location. The barn was spotless and the attention to every detail was greatly appreciated. We'll certainly be back in the future!
