Enjoy a peaceful moment in the conservatory overlooking the garden

Description

The warm and welcoming living room has two comfortable sofas, smart TV, and a lovely log burning stove perfect for cosy winter evenings. The double doors open up into the dining area with standard seating for six people, though this can be extended to seat seven. Off the dining room is the conservatory, with a selection of games and books for guests to enjoy, while overlooking the beautiful private garden. It is the perfect place to spend a peaceful afternoon with a good book.

To the back of the property is the kitchen, complete with breakfast bar. The room is well-equipped with fridge-freezer, microwave, oven, electric hob and a handy washing machine. There is a dishwasher, but with the views from the kitchen, you might actually find yourself wanting to do the dishes…

For visitors seeking accommodation on one-level, there is a stylish ground floor bedroom with a double bed, built in storage and vanity table.

Across the hallway from the bedroom is the modern shower room.

Moving upstairs, you will find the bright and spacious king bedroom with panelled feature wall. The room immediately feels comfortable and relaxing, yet practical, with plenty of hanging and drawer space. Here you can enjoy views over the garden and fells beyond. The middle bedroom, with bunk beds, is one for our younger visitors. Each bedroom has quality mattresses, luxury bed linen and towels.

If you're a group of seven, or just want some extra room, there is an optional fourth bedroom upstairs with a single bed. This room is offered at £50 for a short break and £75 for a full week (please add from the booking extras page)

There is also a useful WC with heated towel rail upstairs.

Guests at Fern Cottage can also enjoy complimentary WiFi, private parking on the driveway, and storage in the garage for any equipment, bikes, paddle boards, kayaks etc.

Please note that Fern Cottage is situated in a residential area so is not suitable for stag or hen parties. Please contact Keswick Cottages for alternative options.

Portinscale is a beautiful, bustling village, looking out across the shimmering waters of Derwentwater.

From Portinscale, you can explore the surrounding fells and woodlands. For novice ramblers, Catbells is a great starter fell, and offers stunning views of Derwentwater & Keswick.

If you’re looking to venture out into the Lake District without a car, Portinscale is serviced by the X4 and X5 bus services, running all the way from Workington to Penrith, linking Portinscale to local train stations.

A perfect New Year week - best holiday cottage we've stayed in
Fern Cottage was the perfect NY holiday. Certainly one of the best holiday cottages we've ever stayed in. The Customer Service was exceptional - we've never received such an amazing welcome pack. Lovely house, super comfy beds. We particularly loved sitting in the conservatory enjoying the mountain views. Will definitely use Keswick Cottages again - very impressed.

Hi, Laura! This is such a kind review--thank you so much! We've passed this along to the whole team. One of the advantages of booking with a local, independent company is that we can truly take the time to make our guests' experience magical. We're honoured that you chose to spend New Year's with us, and we hope you enjoyed the festive gifts we left! There's lots to love about Fern Cottage, but one of our favourite features is the conservatory: perfect for watching the rain, or relaxing in on a sunny day. We'd love to welcome you again soon! Best wishes, Keswick Cottages

Perfect family holiday home
We loved our stay at Fern Cottage! We felt relaxed, comfortable and at home from the minute we arrived. The pictures do not do it justice.... it was more spacious than we thought and it has such incredible views. There are many wonderful walks from the doorstep, either a quick stroll down to the lakeside or to the mountains (We climbed Barrow and Catbells on our stay!). Keswick is also a short walk away, 15-20 minutes depending on your speed and we enjoyed the walk! The house itself was so clean, comfy beds, kitchen full of every amenity we needed and so peaceful. The fire was an extra bonus and so cosy and comfortable relaxing in the warmth after our walks. We would not hesitate to book it again! :-)

Hi, Chris! Sounds like you've had a lovely, adventurous, cosy holiday! Fern Cottage is very ideally situated, especially for families. Catbells is a great starter fell, especially for families with young children, or those new to fell walking. This, combined with the facilities, accessibility to central Keswick, and slightly out-of-the-way location, make Fern Cottage perfect for families looking to adventure all day and relax in the evenings. It'd be our pleasure to welcome you again. Best wishes, Keswick Cottages

A brilliant first family holiday, couldn't fault it!
Our first family holiday with our new born, we really couldn't fault the cottage at all. Location perfect, decorated nicely and even for the age of the property it had largely been refurnished where needed to have everything wanted. A huge well done to the cleaning team, we've never stayed somewhere so spotless! We'll certainly be coming back, thanks for a brilliant week.

Hi, Joshua! Congratulations on your first family holiday! We're so happy to have been a part of the fun, and here's to many more. Fern Cottage is the perfect blend of characterful charm, modern amenities, and is perfect for families. One of our favourite features is the conservatory, perfect for sunny and rainy days alike, whether you're enjoying the natural light or watching the raindrops trickle down the window. The property is perfect for families, and we hope you choose to stay with us again in the future! Being a small, family-run business, feedback like this means the world to us. We've passed along your comments to the housekeeper that cleaned the cottage prior to your stay, and they're very happy to hear that you've had a great stay! Best wishes, Keswick Cottages

Dear Keswick Cottages, We just wanted to write following our stay to say thank you for the kind welcome gifts and additional thoughtful wrapped gifts for the two children when we arrived for our Christmas stay. We had a wonderful family holiday at Ferm cottage and felt so welcomed and at home from the minute we arrived. We were blessed by good weather during the stay but the cottage was better than we had hoped and gave us the perfect space to share special family time. I have left a review but I just wanted to relay our thanks for the clean and lovely cottage, the thoughtful touches and also prompt support when the room was locked and also with the issue with a radiator not working. It really is a special holiday home. Many thanks again and warm wishes to you for a Happy New Year. Best wishes, Sarah (on behalf of the Watmough family siblings)
Fern cottage is very comfortable and well appointed. Situated in a quiet and really accessible village, very close to the town of Keswick. Excellent hosts who were very responsive and provided excellent instructions all round. Highly recommended cottage stay in a wonderful area. Many thanks again for a fantastic holiday cottage, everything we wished for was present in Fern cottage, and it made for a really relaxing break. Hugo.
