Description

The cottage is very central, close to Fitz park and only a minutes walk to the shops, pubs and restaurants of Keswick, and is ideally situated for all amenities. There is parking for one car at the rear of the cottage (best suited for a small – medium sized car) and also a parking permit for additional parking less than 50 metres away. The cottage is double glazed and has remote controlled gas central heating throughout. At the front of the cottage there is a small area with slate chips and potted shrubs.

As you enter the cottage you will appreciate the spacious, well furnished open plan lounge. The lounge has two comfortable leather sofas. There is a traditional Lakeland slate and mineral fireplace with an electric stove, ideal for cosy nights in. The dining area has an oak dining table and six chairs and pine dresser. This room is well lit and very comfortable.

To the back of the cottage is the kitchen which is compact but very well equipped. Facilities include gas oven and hob, dishwasher, fridge with a small freezing compartment, microwave and all equipment needed for your holiday. From the kitchen there is a small porch with a washing machine and clothes dryer.

On the first floor there are two good sized bedrooms. The twin bedroom has two single beds (can be made up as superking – £15 fee), oak furniture and looks out to the front towards the town. A wall mounted TV is provided. The second bedroom is a single room with views towards Latrigg and Skiddaw. On this floor is the beautiful newly refurbished bathroom which is fully tiled, nicely finished and has bath with rain shower over, WC and wash basin.

The master bedroom is on the second floor. This is a large room with beams and sloping ceilings and has fabulous views from both windows. The room itself is very nicely furnished with king-size bed, quality oak furniture but with the added benefit of two wicker chairs, a small table and TV with compact DVD player – a room to escape from other members of the party! Now with new ensuite toilet and basin. From the master bedroom there is access over the windowsill to the roof terrace with seating. There is sun on this terrace all day and the views over the rooftops to the fells are stunning and constantly changing. All bedrooms are beautifully presented with luxury linen and towels. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the cottage.

Keswick offers plenty of options to keep you occupied during your stay. For walkers the Keswick to Threlkeld Railway Trial which starts next to the Keswick Leisure centre is a 5 kilometre (10 kilometre there and back) walk along what was once a railway track. It offers beautiful views and is a multi-user trial suitable for pushchairs, wheelchairs and mobility scooters. If you fancy something with a little more elevation and spectacular views, Latrigg and Walla Crag can be reached from your doorstep, and you can even tick off some Wainwrights! 10 minutes out of Keswick is Whinlatter forest, which offers a huge selection of walks and outdoor activities.

Keswick itself offers lots of amenities, from shops to cafés, pubs to theatres, you will be spoilt for choice.

A pleasant week
The location was ideal and it was of reasonable value for the 5 of us. I love sitting out on the balcony in an evening. This is the 4th year we have stayed in the cottage because we have always been satisfied up until now. Sadly the house is in need of some TLC. The tiles in the bathroom were held on with duct tape, not ideal, and I would say that it needs a deep clean. Skirting boards were covered in dust, the small chest of drawers in the single room had juice spilled down the front and was sticky and the inside of the front living room window was covered in fingerprints. The drawers' interiors and inside the wardrobes hadn't been dusted since I don't know when, and I don't think the dirt on the back of the bathroom door had been cleaned since I washed it last year. Although the floors had been washed and were still damp when we arrived, they had been mopped with a sour mop making the rooms smell off. We bought floor wipes to over come this. Also when we arrived a curtain rail was hanging off the wall, however it was promptly fixed on our first evening. This cottage has so much to offer and is in a super location but it needs a good “spruce up” and that includes the weeds at the front door. I have in the past recommended this cottage to quite a few people, however in its current condition I don't feel I can at the moment.

Thank you very much for taking the time to review your stay. I'm so sorry to learn that there were some shortcomings during your stay. I can confirm that the bathroom tiles have now been repaired. Unfortunately it was not a job that could be carried out during changeover hours, so the tiles were secured to avoid any inconvenience to guests and repaired at the first opportunity. It is really disappointing to hear that the cleanliness was not up to our usual high standard during this visit. Please know we are a small local agency just around the corner from the cottage and would have made sure the points were rectified straight away. The housekeeping manager has carried out some additional training with the cleaner who looks after the cottage and organised the deep clean. We of course hope you would not be deterred from returning in the future. Best Wishes, Keswick Cottages

Great accommodation and location
We really enjoyed our stay at Abacourt Cottage. The cottage is well equipped and perfect for our group of 4 adults, 1 child, 1 baby and a dog. Location is perfect, only seconds away from the shops, pubs and restaurants, with the park a 2 minute walk away. Keswick is lovely and a great base for exploring the Lake District. Keswick Cottages were great, very friendly and kept us informed at all times. They sent a maintenance guy round the same day when we had an issue. Highly recommended.

Thank you so much for your lovely 5* review, we are so glad you hear you all enjoyed your stay at Abacourt Cottage. Located in the centre of Keswick, Abacourt provides an excellent base for local Keswick adventures and further afield! Thank you also for your kind words about our service, we always strive to ensure your stay is as relaxing as possible! We hope to welcome you back on your next visit to Keswick! Best Wishes, Keswick Cottages

Comfortable , good location but beware the parking
Comfortable and clean cottage, especially comfortable beds. Our only problem was the parking. Access to the parking space is very narrow and arriving in the dark we pranged our brand new car! Coming in and out it took two people to guide the car out safely.

Thank you for your wonderful review, we're so glad that you found the cottage nice and comfortable and enjoyed a good night's rest. We're really sorry to hear about the car and hope that it's not badly damaged, the turning point into the car park is a little tricky to manoeuvre round, particularly so in the dark. The cottage also comes with a parking permit for the nearby long stay car park so this is another option for those that don't wish to use the allocated parking space or have more than one car. We hope that you have had a lovely Christmas and wish you all the best for 2025. Kind regards. Keswick Cottages
