A charming Lakeland 'snug' with views of Skiddaw, Barf Cottage is situated in the tranquil village on the edge of Derwentwater. Within an easy 20 minute walk to the market town of Keswick the cottage is a stone throw away from the local pub The Farmers Arms, a 5 minute walk from 'The Chalet' tearooms and a 10 minute walk to Derwent and Nicole End Marinas. The cottage retains all the original features of a traditional Lakeland home yet at the same time offers modern fixtures, comfort and style. A small yet characterful front garden has outdoor seating to enjoy that 'post hike' drink on sunny afternoons and evenings. The cottage serves as a wonderful bolthole for couples, small groups of friends or families.
What a fab cottage. We have stayed in the Lake District many times but never in Portinscale and loved the location being so close to Keswick. The cottage is spacious and home from home. Some lovely thoughtful touches for the dog and handy bike storage. The weather this week was amazing in the high 20's only a few drops of rain on Friday, first time for us in the Lakes when we didn't need all our waterproofs. Climbed Scafell Pike, Catbells, Maiden Moor and High Spy. Loads of dog walks, drove the Honister pass to Buttermere...stunning! Sad to return to 'flat' Norfolk! The Peachments & Barney Dog

Jasmine is the perfect retreat for couples, there is both a pub and formal dining within a couple minutes walk from the doorstep, the cottage is only minutes away from the shores of Derwentwater and a 20 minute easy stroll into Keswick. The property has a traditional and welcoming feel with original beams and a cast iron wood burning stove for snug evenings in. Outside there is a patio area with outdoor seating, ideal for that sunny afternoon. Free unlimited Wi-Fi.
This was the second time we’ve stopped in Jasmine Cottage we like it so much. At breakfast we sit in the back room enjoying the light in this room and weather permitting the sight of Catbells. In the evening we sit in the front room with the stove lit, leaving the stair door open so the heat goes up to the bedroom as well (The cottage has central heating but the thermostat is in the living room and using the stove turns the heating off). The bedroom is very spacious the beam gives it great character. Mind you head going into the bathroom. The local does very nice meals but check when they are open. We tend to walk to Keswick across the fields, a loose surfaced footpath, to Booths and the bus station. We had no problem parking in Keswick, when we did take the car, but that could be because it was November. Walking / hiking from Jasmin is great. Easy access to Catbells and not worth taking the car for many of the other Wainwright ‘s. One day we walked to the bus station and took a bus and did a gentle walk back.David M

We’ve had a lovely week with some great weather for walking. The cottage has been very comfy and cosy. Enjoyed the Quiz Night at The Farmers Arms on Sunday night with a good meal. We loved ‘Go Ape’- all three generations made it round in one piece!Lewis Family
