Situated at the foot of the magnificent Blencathra lies the charming village of Threlkeld. Ideally located for both hiking and cycling, there’s no shortage of activities from your doorstep.
Grab your rucksack and head out on one of the fantastic walks around Threlkeld and St Johns in the Vale. Take a leisurely stroll through the valleys, for a relaxed Lakeland walk. Or for the intrepid hiker, why not nip up Blencathra and be rewarded with stunning views looking down to the Helvellyn range? If you’re feeling brave, the route up Sharp Edge, with it’s sheer drops down to Scales Tarn, is rewarding, but certainly not for the faint-hearted!

Looking for a flat walk in the Lake District? Take the popular Railway Line Trail into Keswick and take in the surrounding wildlife. The trail was renovated in 2020, with all gradients and surfaces redesigned to promote accessibility for all, making this the perfect walk for families or older people visiting the Lake District.
Looking for a bite to eat? The village boasts two pubs and is popular with fell walkers. The Salutation Inn, affectionately known as ‘the Sally’, is a 17th century inn, with a warm, contemporary feel, flagstone floors, oak beams and roaring log fires.
Over the road is the Horse and Farrier, where you can get an excellent pint of Jennings and a hearty Cumbrian meal.
Explore the industrial heritage in Threlkeld and visit the museum which offers fun for all the family, including an underground tour, and mineral panning. Take a ride on a steam train and enjoy the stunning views of Blencathra as you’ve never seen them before.
Threlkeld is on the X4/5 bus service which links Penrith, Keswick, Cockermouth and Workington.
