The Lingholm Kitchen and Walled Garden is situated in the charming village of Portinscale, just on the outskirts of Keswick.
Following a 20-year period of being closed to the public, part of the Estate has now been reopened with a café set next to a restored Walled Garden. Beatrix Potter made sketches of the old kitchen garden and referred to it as her original inspiration for Mr McGregor’s garden in The Tale of Peter Rabbit, which is not only a lovely piece of trivia, but exciting to younger children and anyone interested in the history of literature and the Lake District.
Serving breakfast, lunch, and delicious cake and coffee, the Lingholm Kitchen and Walled Garden is the perfect place to refuel, or round-off, the Derwentwater circular, or even just to enjoy a bite to eat away from the business of the town centre!
Our personal menu highlights include the Lingholm Almond Granola, and the Winter Squash Bubble & Squeak.
As well as serving food throughout the day, guests can book afternoon tea to be enjoyed at the Lingholm Kitchen and Walled Garden, or to take away and enjoy elsewhere. If you’re visiting the Lake District with children, they also have a children’s afternoon tea, also available to stay or to-go.

Dogs: Well-behaved dogs are very welcome in the cafe and walled garden. Please keep dogs on the lead throughout the estate and walled garden.
Allergens: A range of gluten-free and vegan options are available. For afternoon tea, please notify the team of any allergens or dietary requirements at the point of booking.
Seating: Indoor and outdoor seating is available.
