Located in Threlkeld, the Horse & Farrier sell food from 8:00am – 21:00pm every day, including Christmas Day!
For many years travelers, passing by on the Keswick to Threlkeld road would stop at a farm to water their horses and buy food from the farmer. Eventually, the Farmer decided that there was more profit in hospitality than farming, and thus, the Horse & Farrier was born! Dating back to 1688, the owners have made a real effort to conserve the ‘old world’ charm of the place, and throughout the building you can even see some drawings of the previous owner by local artist, Wikes.
They emphasise that the new owner is a lot taller and slimmer…
We could sit for hours and list all of our menu highlights, but here’s a glimpse at a few of our favourites from each of their menus:
Breakfast: We love the continental! But there are cooked classics available, including a ‘Full Cumbrian’ and ‘Eggs Royal’ [sic].
Lunch: If you can manage a starter, main, and dessert, we’d recommend the loaded nachos, falafel burger, and the vanilla creme brulee.
Dinner: If you can manage a starter, main, and dessert, we’d recommend the caprese salad, sweet potato and chickpea curry, and the sticky toffee pudding.
Did you know that sticky toffee pudding was actually invented in Cumbria?
Sunday: If you can manage a starter, main, and dessert, we’d recommend the button mushrooms; a beef, pork, lamb, or turkey roast dinner, and the farrier’s eton mess.
Also on the menu are a range of sandwiches, salads, sides, and ‘nibbles’, perfect for grazing or sharing, as well as a children’s menu.
To complement your meal, the Sally have a great range of quality wines to suit every budget. and also excellent range of Real Cumbrian Ales, international lagers and spirits.
