Mirehouse and Gardens

Three miles from Keswick, Mirehouse is a beautiful family run historic house. It has beautiful gardens, lakeshore and woodland playgrounds. Dogs are always welcome in the grounds (though not in the playgrounds) on a short lead.

Enjoy a refreshing drink or hot meal at The Old Sawmill Tearoom. Open daily from 10am to 4pm. It is popular with walks, cyclists and visitors to Mirehouse. They stock excellent local suppliers and delicious homemade Cumbrian cooking.

There are many walks available in the grounds of Mirehouse, whether you walk through the gardens or the woods, you will experience the stunning landscape of the Lake District.

Explore The House starting from The Hall notice the fresh flowers that welcome visitors along with the warm welcome guides and live piano music drifting through the house. There are fun activities to play such as an owl hunt for young children and a history quiz for older ones and for the adults too!

Perfect for families of all ages, there are three playgrounds to choose from. Squirrel Island is perfect for families with younger children. They can swing on the tyre or toddler swing. Play house or go on an adventure on the horse and cart. They can even go paddling! The Steeplechase course is perfect for older children and adults. It can be walked, jogged or ran and is often timed so make sure you’re quick! For the older kids (12-16 year olds), The Forest Hazard Course provides a challenge! It is a never tiring series of crossing the beck, including by air!
