Alhambra Keswick Cinema

An exterior view of the Keswick Alhambra Cinema at night.

Built in 1913, the Keswick Alhambra Cinema is one of the very few UK picture houses that has been open in continuous operation for over 100 years! Fast forward to present day and it is still as popular as ever with both locals and tourists. The vintage feel of the cinema has been retained and it presents an experience like no other. Old film reels from before the cinema went digital can still be seen hanging from the ceilings!

The cinema has two screens, one with 157 seats spread between the stalls and the balcony, with single seats and sofa seats available on both levels. Screen 2 is more intimate, with 28 seats, with two double sofa seats, perfect for enjoying a romantic break in the Lake District. Snacks and drinks are available from the bar when you enter the cinema; as a small family business, selling affordable refreshments, including delicious, local Lakes ice cream, helps to keep the cinema alive, and the staff politely request that guests do not bring outside refreshments into the cinema. Alcoholic and hot drinks are also available.

Another fantastic offering from the cinema is their relaxed screenings. At these screenings, the lights are kept on at a low level for visibility to move around, the sound is lower than usual, and the atmosphere is more suited to anyone who may struggle with a traditional cinema experience, or families with young children who, lets face it, might not be able to stay quiet for the entire duration of a film.

The Alhambra Cinema also offers private hire, which is a great way to celebrate a special occasion or to get a group of friends or family together to watch a film of your choice!

Accessibility: the cinema is wheelchair and mobility-scooter accessible, with a disabled toilet, and an audio loop system.
