Built in 1913, the Keswick Alhambra Cinema is one of the very few UK picture houses that has been open in continuous operation for over 100 years! Fast forward to present day and it is still as popular as ever with both locals and tourists. The vintage feel of the cinema has been retained and it presents an experience like no other.
The cinema has two screens, one that holds 157 seats spread between the stalls and the balcony, single seats and sofa seats available on both levels. Screen 2 is more intimate, with 28 seats, of which two pairs at the back are sofa seats for two. Snacks and drinks are available from the bar when you enter the cinema; please be aware the owners do request you do not bring your own food. As a small family business and selling sweets and snacks is a great way to help keep them going! Alcoholic drinks are also available.
Another fantastic offering from the cinema is their “relaxed screenings”. At these relaxed, accessible screenings the lights are kept on low for visibility to move around, the sound is a bit lower than usual, and everyone attending knows there may be some added input from infants or other more restless cinema patrons.
Accessibility: the cinema is wheelchair and mobility-scooter accessible, with a disabled toilet, and an audio loop system.
The Alhambra Cinema also offers private hire, which is a great way to celebrate a special occasion or to get a group of friends or family together to watch a film of your choice! See their website for more information.
