Property overview

A charming Lakeland 'snug' with views of Skiddaw, Barf Cottage is situated in the tranquil village on the edge of Derwentwater. Within an easy 20 minute walk to the market town of Keswick the cottage is a stone throw away from the local pub The Farmers Arms, a 5 minute walk from 'The Chalet' tearooms and a 10 minute walk to Derwent and Nicole End Marinas. The cottage retains all the original features of a traditional Lakeland home yet at the same time offers modern fixtures, comfort and style. A small yet characterful front garden has outdoor seating to enjoy that 'post hike' drink on sunny afternoons and evenings. The cottage serves as a wonderful bolthole for couples, small groups of friends or families.

Lovely and clean as usual. A minor leak with the shower was sorted straight away. We felt very safe here with all the extra cleaning and social distancing at Keswick market (Thursday). A very much needed break for us all in this terrible year.Dean from Sheffield 1st January 1970
This was a lovely well equipped cosy cottage in an ideal location. It was so nice to stay somewhere which didn't have a lot of rules and regulations and we felt very relaxed and at home, as did our 2 doggies, Moomin and Lemmy!Maxine from Huntly 12th October 2019
We had a great week in Barf Cottage - the kids loved all the nooks & crannies + hiding in the big wardrobe! A great base for walking + a lovely place to come home to. We finally saw Skiddaw poke his head out of the clouds by the last day!The Bravery Family from Surrey 20th October 2018
A very enjoyable week in a super cosy cottage. Enjoyed lots of walks from the door. Loved playing 'Trivial Persuit' on an evening with a drink! Thank you for a lovely clean, well equipped cottage. Hope to return! The Husbands from Canterbury 25th August 2018
We have had a lovely stay in this great cottage. Everyone so very helpful and friendly too. This is our second year here, & its just as good this time around. Many thanksThe Andrews Family from Cleveland 11th August 2018
What a fab cottage. We have stayed in the Lake District many times but never in Portinscale and loved the location being so close to Keswick. The cottage is spacious and home from home. Some lovely thoughtful touches for the dog and handy bike storage. The weather this week was amazing in the high 20's only a few drops of rain on Friday, first time for us in the Lakes when we didn't need all our waterproofs. Climbed Scafell Pike, Catbells, Maiden Moor and High Spy. Loads of dog walks, drove the Honister pass to Buttermere...stunning! Sad to return to 'flat' Norfolk! The Peachments & Barney Dog from Norfolk 7th July 2018
This cottage is in the quiet village of Portinscale, only a 15 minute stroll or 5 minute drive from Keswick. More importantly you can walk into the fells from the door. When you get back you will have a warm and spacious cottage, very well equipped, especially in the kitchen, to enjoy. Highly recommended.Felicity from London 31st March 2018
What a little gem this cottage is. The owners have done a splendid job - it is well appointed and with lots of cosy features. Great location - for walks (we had a lovely hike to Catbells) and food (the Chalet is great). Only thing we would change is we would hvae liked to stay longer. Thank you!Lucy, William & Ella from Kent 5th August 2017
