Enjoying a quiet, unspoilt rural location the Swan Hotel, a former 17th century coaching inn has been sympathetically converted into several quality apartments. On the edge of the village of Thornthwaite, within five minutes walking distance of Bassenthwaite Lake and surrounded by delightful scenery it is the ideal location for a relaxing break. Fine walking opportunities abound for all abilities with many walks from the door - from fine tops to valley rambles. A cycle way passes the door with superb cycling links to the rest of the north Lake District. There is excellent sailing and fishing to be enjoyed on Bassenthwaite Lake as well as an abundance of wildlife. The southern tip of the lake has been designated  a wildlife sanctuary, and from the nearby hide guests can observe many and varied forms of wildlife on and around the lake. The famous Bassenthwaite Ospreys can frequently be seen flying overhead during the season. Swan House is served by the X5 Penrith-Keswick-Cockermouth-Workington bus service with a bus stop outside the door, enabling guests to explore the area without using their car. There is a good choice of pubs and places to eat in the area and good shopping in the historic market towns of Keswick (3 miles) and Cockermouth (7 miles). There is ample parking and benefits from large shared grounds with pond, orangery, picnic/barbecue area and decking. Lord's  Seat is a fabulous three-bedroomed apartment situated on the first floor and enjoying stunning views to the front and back. The newly converted apartment has been completed to a high standard with quality fixtures and fittings. The property is entered via shared entrance hall and stairs. Entering the hallway there is hanging space and storage for outdoor gear. From here you find the brand new fitted kitchen with fridge, freezer, electric oven and hob, microwave oven, washing machine and tumble dryer. The solid wood Pippy Oak units are of a high quality with granite worktops with small breakfast bar and views to Barf and Whinlatter. Steps from the kitchen lead to the spacious, bright lounge/dining area with windows to front and back. The lounge has feature fire-place with gas fired stove, TV, DVD, CD with mp3 and i-pod docking station, comfortable leather settees, oak dining table and chairs. Each of the three comfortable bedrooms enjoy views to Skiddaw and along the valley to Keswick and the mountains beyond. The master bedroom has king size sleigh bed, TV and en-suite shower room with basin and wc. A second bedroom has twin beds and the third bedroom has a double bed. The family bathroom has a large spa bath with shower over, twin basins and wc and view to Barf. Towels are provided. This apartment is unsuitable for families with children under 8 years of age. Visitors book

Due to a lack of organisation on our behalf, we booked late and this apartment was the only place we could find. Talk about falling lucky! Fantastic apartment, well appointed and with lovely views. Nothing to dislike. Only had a week but really enjoyed being back in the Lakes after too long away.
The Langricks from Staffordshire 25th August 2017
This is the second time we've stayed at Lords Seat. It is a really lovely, well equipped apartment in a beautuful area. There is a lovely walk to Bassenthwaite Lake nearby and Keswick is not far away, with plenty of shops. There is plenty of parking in the town or rugby ground, all nearby. Eating places abound and there is a lovely visitor centre at Whinlatter with a nice cafe (if you visit at the right time, you can see ospreys through a video link trained on their nest!). Go Ape for the children and cycle hire! There are plenty of places to visit in the area and lovely scenery everywhere! This year we had great weather, a bonus in this part of the world! We love the Lakes. The only drawback for us that we have to travel up from Surrey on a Friday, a very busy day on the motorways!
Sweeting from Surrey 21st July 2017
Great place to explore the Northern Lakes from. Very comfortable, clean & well equipped. Will go back!
Quirie from Edinburgh 25th June 2017
This is our second stay at this accommodation and what can you say it is stunning. The apartment has everything you could possibly want, very quiet for a relaxing holiday. There are fabulous views across to Skiddaw and beyond, walks from the door
Cooper Family from Liverton 11th November 2016
The flat was extremely well equipped, which was a real bonus. It was furnished to a very high standard which we thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated , the directions were spot on and picking up the keys was simple. Situated about 3.5 miles from Keswick it was a perfect quiet location with many nice walks directly from the flat I staid here with my mother and two sisters, it was a great weekend and the quality of the flat just added to a perfect weekend, thank you!
Hughes from Holyhead 16th September 2016
Excellently equipped, tastefully furnished, lovely location. Made a fabulous birthday weekend. Without doubt I'd return and wouldn't need to wait for another birthday
Renshaw from Wirral 18th April 2016
The location was fabulous in the lovely little village of Thornthwaite, close enough to Keswick for convenience but far enough away to escape the ever increasing crowds in the Lake District. The apartment exceeded my expectations in all respects. The standard of furnishing and accessories was of the highest standard and everything you could wish for was provided. Attention to detail was first class. We would have no hesitation in recommending this apartment and we will certainly return.
Clark Family from Godalming 27th May 2016
Breathtaking views. Superb luxury accommodation. Why go elsewhere? Fantastic
Mr & Mrs Gardner from Chester-Le-Street 9th October 2015
Best holiday apartment we've ever stayed in - Fantastic! Thank You
Pownall Family from Cheshire 30th July 2015
This is an outstanding property, exceptionally well-equipped, very comfortable and a lovely place to stay. Thank you to Keswick Cottages.
The Hall Family from Yorkshire 1st October 2015
Brilliant weekend in a beautiful apartment. Views are spectacular. Will be recommending this to all friends & family. Weather has been perfect.
Mcguire Family from Tyne & Wear 28th November 2014
Having had parents and family living in Keswick and have now moved away we have to rent a property if we want a holiday. Lords Seat can be described in one word SUPERB. Although it was top of the range it was worth every penny. Well equipped beautifully furnished and decorated and the bath , a real way to relax after a long walk.!! Treat yourselves it is good value for money. The drive into Keswick is not far , the local pubs serve good food and you have some fantastic walks on your door step. The hotels in Keswick which might give you this quality accommodation will cost you a lot more. Just wish I could bring my dog , but when you see the quality of the flat you know why they do not take dogs. Many thanks we will be back. P.S What Keswick cottages say and print is very true. Very efficient firm and very friendly would use them again.
Christine Barker from Chesterfield 10th October 2013
Absolutely amazing apartment! So clean and tidy with everything you could need! Fabulous location and stunning views. Great recommendations for meals out and other activities; I was sad to be leaving! Have already recommended to family and friends and we will be returning. Can not fault anything. Thanks.
Mr & Mrs Smith from Cumbria 4th February 2013
The apartment exceeded our expectations. It has everything and more, it is beautifully decorated; we really enjoyed staying in on the wet days! It's our first visit but won't be our last, the surroundings are breathtaking. Lovely food at The Royal Oak; Lovely holiday. Thank you.
Bhambra from Birmingham 24th August 2012
Most certainly lived up to its 5 star billing; absolutely beautiful in every way. Wonderful outlook and weather was fairly kind. Would highly recommend the Lords Seat.
Stevenson from Ayrshire 20th July 2012
Gorgeous apartment with everything that you could wish for and fabulous views. Thank you for a very relaxing week and lovely memories.
The White Family from Yorkshire 6th July 2012
This was the first time we had stayed at Lord's Seat and the accommodation once again 'ticked all the boxes' and both met, and passed, all our expectations! The property is not only wonderfully equipped, it is also ideally situated just outside Keswick but within a stroll of Bassenthwaite and easy reach of the North and Western Lakes.
C Wilding from Lancs. 9th September 2011
We enjoyed both the fantastic property and location offered by yourselves. Both were to a very high standard. It felt like a home from home and I would book this property again. That said we will be going to sunny shores next year but may book a weekend when we can fit it in. I would be delighted to come back to you in the future as you were very helpful and a pleasure to deal with. Thank you once again for a very nice break.
Charles Lawson from East Lothian 6th September 2010
We had a wonderful time at the cottage; It is a beautiful place inside and out. Excellent facilities and we felt very comfortable. We would not hesitate to use the place again. We also had a very entertaining programme weather wise: rain, snow, hail and sunshine. There were plenty of people about but not too many as to make movement and parking difficult. Things could not have worked out better. Thank you again.
Roger and Gillian Lawson from Worcestershire 29th March 2010
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Lord’s Seat property in Thornthwaite earlier this June. The property was outstanding –great location, beautifully equipped and maintained, a very luxurious base to go out hiking from. We could not ask for anything nicer – thank you. We will not be rebooking for next year – our trips to England cannot happen every year. However we certainly hope that we’ll get chance to return to holiday in the Keswick area and your properties would be at the top of our list. We’ll be recommending Keswick Cottages to friends and family in the US and UK. Thank you very much.
